OK, so here you are about to read this blog…wait let’s make sure you have a few things…maybe something to eat and drink. Yes, I have a feeling this is going to be a long one.
Dear husband and I left for New York on Sunday morning. I
could barely breathe. What was about to happen was only a dream for the last 9
years and a possibility for the last 10 months. I couldn't believe the time had
finally come.
We arrived in New York in the early evening. I couldn't wait
to see the intended parents!! We went out to eat at an amazing restaurant and
had a great time and great conversation. Every time I speak to them or see them
my heart is filled with joy. They are such amazing people and I can’t wait for them to be parents. My husband and I are pretty darn cute when we are together
(he he) but I can honestly say that this couple has us beat! They are so in
love and it is beautiful to hear one talk about the other (sigh).
Shortly after we sat down at the restaurant I noticed a
decoration not to far from our table. It was a Kokopelli!! Kokopelli is
a Native American fertility deity so it made me smile and felt
like there were good vibes all around us.
We spent the rest of the evening driving around New York in
a convertible. The first time we were there we didn't get to see much of the
city so this was really exciting. We stopped and walked around time square for
a little while. Just a wonderful evening! We got to our hotel later that night
or early the next morning depending on how you look at it. I was glad not to
have gotten there to early because I knew that I would not be able to sleep a
wink. Of course I was right!
OK, let’s fast forward to the really good stuff!!! We pull
up to the clinic at 9:20. Again, I can barely breathe. If I was a betting girl,
I would put all my money on the fact that the intended parents were also
nervous! We first met with the doctor and discussed how many embryos we would
be transferring. We all agreed that it was in the best interest to transfer
two. This doctor is great! I went into the room first and changed into a gown
and got positioned on the table. The parents and my husband came in before the
procedure started. The first thing we saw on the screen were the two embryos.
Then they were placed in a tube and brought to the doctor. Then my vacant
uterus appeared on the screen. We were able to watch the whole process of the
embryos being inserted. It was amazing. You could see them
moving around. We were able to take a bunch of pictures. These will forever be
my treasures! The smiles on the intended parent’s faces were those of pure excitement!
The intended parents left the room and I was instructed to lie on the table for
ten minutes. My husband decided to stay with me. I immediately broke down. It
was an overwhelming sense of joy. I couldn't believe that I was in that moment
and knew my life would never be the same because of it and hopefully if
everything goes as expected a few other lives will never be the same as well. I
did have some restrictions I wasn't expecting. I am not allowed to lift
anything or do any strenuous activity for two weeks. I was not prepared for
this and am a little worried about what I will do as far as my job goes because
I can’t do my job without lifting. Also, no swimming, sex, or taking a bath for
the next two weeks. That one hurt. I love taking baths!! Whenever I feel sick
or achy I always head for the tub.
I went back to the hotel room and started my long day of bed
rest! I am not one who likes to lie around and do nothing so I was a little
anxious and HOT! Our hotel room heater would not shut off! My husband had spent
a portion of the day with one of the parents while I “relaxed” and when he
returned it was 80 degrees in our room. Thankfully we were allowed to move
rooms. One of the intended parents came back with some chocolate covered
strawberries for me to eat while in bed. It was so cute because it was an
arrangement with a chocolate baby bottle mold. Sweet!
When I woke up the next morning my butt was killing me. I
have huge bruises and lumps from the shots. So I decided I would do my shot in
the thigh this time and give my butt a rest. Wholly damn!! Big mistake... not
only did it hurt a lot worse when I did it but my whole muscle was sore the
next day. I didn't even want to walk. Speaking of shots I forgot to mention
something…I HAVE TO DO THESE SHOTS FOR AT LEAST 6 WEEKS AFTER A POSITIVE PREGNANCY TEST! (sigh)
We drove into the city (New York) and were able to be
tourists for a while. It was a great way to end our trip!
I went in yesterday for some blood work to check hormone
levels and am still anxiously waiting to hear those results. NEXT WEDNESDAY IS
OUR PREGNANCY TEST!!! Well that is the official pregnancy test but I am going
to take an early one on Sunday!! I am proud to announce that my uterus is not longer vacant and is hopefully growing a baby or two in there!

Hey, the day! Praying for you all, for some peace in this anxious waiting time, and that the embryo (or embryoS!!!) implant and get comfortable! You're blessed to be a blessing; I'm very proud of you (and TJ too, but hey, he didn't get any embryos implanted in his uterus so.....). I'm anxious to hopefully hear good news from you in the days ahead.
