One Week of Shots Down!!

One week of shots down!! The first two days of shots went really well. On day three I started to have itching and burning at the injection site. It isn’t unbearable but is definitely annoying! I seem to be one of the “lucky” ones who has the pleasure of experiencing some side effects. The headaches started on day three…or maybe I should say headache. I have had one since Monday and it hasn’t gone away. I must say I am thankful though because I am guessing it could be much much worse. It has been tolerable and hasn’t had any negative effects on my student teaching and I haven’t been to mean to my husband =) Now if I may add a side note…Wow those needles are sharp. I accidentally dropped one after giving myself a shot and it stuck in my hardcover binder….so be careful when playing with needles!
On Wednesday I have blood work and an ultrasound to make sure my body is responding to the medication. If so I will get to decrease the amount of Lupron I am taking and start another medication. The less Lupron the better!!!
This week has gone so fast! It is amazing to think this time next month I will be heading back to New York for the transfer!! I still have to pinch myself once a day to make sure this isn’t a dream. It still doesn’t seem real. All in all I tend to look at the side effects of the medication as a positive thing. I knew the risks when I started this process. My husband and I agreed that the end result was worth all these side effects and more. When I start to feel a little down or am feeling nauseous, tired and have a headache, I just imagine the smile on my intended parents face when they are holding their new baby….and all feels right….

(I almost thought about not blogging anymore, but them I checked the stats and was overwhelmed by how many people actually take time to read my words. Thanks so much! I am here to share my journey as a surrogate and am happy that you are a part of it. Please feel free to e-mail me or leave comments. I am an open book and would love to answer any questions you might have about this process)
